8. MILDRED3 A. ROBINSON
(
John2,
Joseph1).
She was born 4 December 1812, probably Clark County, Kentucky, and died
13 July 1886, Boyle County, Kentucky.
80 Mildred was married 2
December 1850 (bond date) to JOHN PRATHER, Fayette County, Kentucky.
Mildred’s brother Joseph was a bondsman. John Prather was the widowed
father of Rutha (Ruthey) Prather who married Mildred’s brother Thomas
B. Robinson.
John Prather was about 24 years older than Mildred; the 1860
federal census for Fayette County lists him, age 72, born in Maryland.
This census indicates he was a prosperous farmer with real estate
valued at $16,120 and personal property valued at $22,800. John Prather
died in February of 1865, Fayette County, Kentucky.81
In his will, John provided for his second wife, Mildred, to receive a
share of his estate equal to that of each of his children, a provision
that she accepted in lieu of dower, which would have been one third of
the estate and to which she was entitled by law. In addition, Mildred
received $3,000 in the form of a note taken out in her name, and her
children William G. and Betsey Kate Prather received $2,000 each in
notes taken out in their names.
Mildred A. Prather was appointed in April of 1865, as guardian
of her minor children, Bettie K. Prather, and William G. Prather, with
Joseph and E. Robinson providing security. A. M. Roberts acted as
Mildred’s Attorney-At-Law.82 The estate settlement, made in February of
1866, provided $49,700.88 to be divided among all heirs, including the
widow. Each received $6,212.73. William G. Prather and Betsy Kate
Prather’s guardian was named as W. B. Kinkead.83
William G. Prather, being over the age of 14, had chosen B. Kinkead as
his guardian and he had been appointed guardian to Bettie Kate with her
mother’s consent.84 John Prather’s children by his first wife, as
named in his will, were Lloyd Prather, Rutha Robertson [Robinson],
Sarah Cordry, Mary Jane Burress, and Telitha Randall.
9. THOMAS3 BERRY ROBINSON
(
John2,
Joseph1).
He was born about 1815, probably Clark County, Kentucky, and died after
1880. Thomas married 2 August 1841, RUTH (RUTHA) (or Ruthey) PRATHER, Fayette
County, Kentucky.
85 Rutha Prather was born about 1823, the
daughter of John Prather and Sarah Wilson. The 1850 and 1860 federal
censuses state Rutha was born in Louisiana. After Sarah died, John
Prather married Mildred A. Robinson, Thomas Berry Robinson’s sister.
Thomas B. Robinson and his family were in Fayette County, Kentucky in
1850 (1850 federal census); by 1860 they were living in Jessamine
County, Kentucky (Nicholasville Post Office).
Thomas B. Robinson's license and marriage bond
The 1880 federal census for Walnut, Jessamine County, Kentucky, lists a Simeon Robinson, age 35, with wife Mary C., age 30, and children George T., age 5, Bessie M., age 4, and David C., age 1 year. Also listed in the household were Thomas B. Robinson, father, age 65, born in Kentucky, both parents born in Virginia, and Clay S. Robinson, brother, age 16.
