86. MARY5 ANN HELENA WARE (Sarah4 Hannah Robinson, Boswell3, John2, Joseph1); She was born 4 February 1861 and died 23 June 1904. Mary Ann married about 1880, CALLITA S. “LITE” HICKMAN. Lite Hickman married (second) circa 1909, Verdie J Grady. 160 Mary Ann, Lite (1855–1941), and Verdie (Grady) Hickman (1872–1943) are buried in the Bethabara Baptist Church Cemetery, Habit, Daviess County, Kentucky.161

87. IVERSON5 BOSWELL WARE (Sarah4 Hannah Robinson, Boswell3, John2, Joseph1). He was born 15 December 1862 and died 4 July 1930. “Ive” married SARAH “SALLIE” HALE; born June 1867; died 1946. Sallie was a daughter of Dr. Caleb Hale and Mary Frances May of Whitesville, Daviess County, Kentucky.163 Iverson B. Ware was a blacksmith, probably taught the trade by one of his uncles, John Dudley Robinson or Elias Ware. Iverson had his own blacksmith shop at Whitesville, Kentucky. The 1900 federal census states Sallie H. Ware was the mother of three children, two living. Iverson B. Ware’s personal estate was appraised 18 July 1930, by O. H. Haynes and C. A. Kelley in the amount of $788.25, as recorded in Daviess County Inventories and Sales Bills, book R, #3337. Mabel H. Hunt liked her Aunt Sallie Ware, describing her as being “jolly.”

Mrs. Sallie H. Ware, 78, formerly of Whitesville, died at Anna, Ill., at 3 a. m. Tuesday.
The body is at the Martin Funeral home, Whitesville.
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p. m. today in Whitesville Baptist church with the Rev. W. D. Potts officiating. Burial will be in the Whitesville cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Hilton Ware, Keith Ware, J. D. Rogers, Emmett Hite, John Dunn, and Lee Dillehay.

Caleb married (second) 1 September 1928, Mabel Gladys Jacobs; born 5 December 1910. Caleb and Sallie E. Ware are buried in Rosehill Cemetery, Owensboro, Kentucky. Caleb and Sallie E. Ware had one known daughter. A son of Caleb Ware survived Pearl Harbor according to my mother, Mabel Hunt.

88. JOHN5 ALLEN WARE (Sarah4 Hannah Robinson, Boswell3, John2, Joseph1); He was born 24 September 1865; died 13 December 1941, of skin cancer according to my mother, Mabel H. Hunt. John Allen Ware married 10 October 1892, AGNES ISABELLE “BELLE” HOWARD.165 Belle (Howard) Ware was born 8 July 1863; died 28 March 1940; she was a daughter of Mary J. Howard. John A. and Belle Ware are buried in Bethabara Baptist Church Cemetery, Habit, Daviess County, Kentucky.

Mrs. John Ware, 75, died at her home at Philpot at 4:40 p. m. Tuesday after an illness of three years. She is survived by her husband, two daughters, Mrs. Emmett Hite and Mrs. John Dunn, both of Philpot, a sister, Mrs. Alice Hinton, of Philpot, and two brothers, P. H. Howard and W. P. Howard, both of Whitesville. She was a member of the Karn Grove Baptist church. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p. m. today at Bethabara church, Habit, the Rev. D. Arthur Dailey officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Pallbearers will be Robert Holland, Chestley Dunn, S. T. Bell, Frank Harrison, Roy Taylor and Herbert Hardesty.

  187 ii. Stella Ware; born July 1893 (fraternal twin to Della Ware); died 2 December 1977.166. Stella married Emmett Hite, born 1888, died 1956. Stella and Emmett Hite are buried in Bethabara Baptist Church at Habit, Kentucky.

An undated newspaper clipping of the obituary of Della (Ware) Dunn (#186 above) was found with the papers of her aunt Birdie (Ware) Horrell:

Mrs. John W. Dunn, of the Philpot section, died at the Owensboro- Daviess County hospital at 9 p. m. Wednesday, following a short illness.
Funeral services will be held at 9 p. m. today in the Glenn funeral home, the Rev. Hugh Smith officiating.
Burial will be in Rose Hill cemetery.
Pallbearers: Hugh Taylor, Silas Bell, Robert Holland, W. E. Barton. O. R. Bristow and John Dawson.
The body is at the Glenn funeral home.

JAMES5 WILLIAM WARE (Sarah4 Hannah Robinson, Boswell3, John2, Joseph1); He was born 17 October 1867; died 7 November 1948; married ARTYMECIE “ARTIE” TAYLOR; born 2 November 1875; died 31 July 1950; daughter of Albert R. Taylor and Narcissa Karn.168 The 1900 federal census for Daviess County lists (erroneously) “Nora” D. Taylor, mother-in-law, widow, age 42, born April 1858, mother of one child, still living, in the household of James W. and Artie Ware. The 1910 census lists her name as “Narse” D. Taylor, still living in the household of James W. Ware. James William and Artie Ware are buried Bethabara Baptist Church Cemetery, Habit, Kentucky.169

J. W. (Squire) Ware
J. W. (Squire) Ware, 81, died at 4:30 p. m. Sunday, at his home near Habit, after a lingering illness. He was a merchant at Philpot, and later engaged in farming. He was a member of the Daviess County Fiscal court for 12 years, a member of the Bethabara Baptist church, and the Joseph H. Brannon Grand Lodge of Philpot.
Surviving are the wife, Artie M. Ware; two daughters, Mrs. Allen Rickey, of Detroit, Mich., and Mrs. Eston Eaty, Habit; one brother, R. C. Ware, Clearwater, Fla.; one sister, Mrs. Birdie Harrell [Horrell], Pleasant Ridge; one grandson, E. R. Eaty, Jr., and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 2 p. m. today in the Bethabara Baptist church, Habit, the Rev. Estil Jones, pastor, officiating, with burial in Habit cemetery. Masons will have charge of services at the grave.
Pallbearers: Earl Rummage, Glover Camp, Robert Taylor, Willard Taylor, Chester M. Hines and E. Hughes.
The body is at the Owensboro Funeral home.

An undated newspaper clipping of the obituary of Artie Taylor was found with the papers of her sister-in-law Birdie (Ware) Horrell:

Mrs. Artie Taylor Ware, 74, widow of J. W. Ware, died at her home, Philpot, Route 1, at 7:00 p. m. Monday.
She was a life-long resident of Daviess County, born 2 November 1875. She was a member of the Bethabara Baptist church.
Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. A. P. Tichey, Detroit, Michigan, Mrs. E. R. Eaty, Daviess County, and one grandson, E. R. Eaty, Jr.
Funeral will be held at 10:30 a. m. Wednesday at the Bethabara Baptist church, conducted by Rev. Elmer J. Forest. Burial Habit Cemetery.
The body is at the Owensboro Funeral Home, 734 Frederica Street, Owensboro.
 
Children of James William and Artie (Taylor) Ware:

  189 i. Nora Lee6 Ware; married Allen P. Richey (or Rickey/Tichey); possibly married twice, according to Mabel (Horrell) Hunt.
  190 ii. Mary Pauline Ware; born 22 January 1895; died 2 December 1977; 170 married Eston Eaty; born 30 September 1889; died 21 May 1973. Pauline and Eston Eaty are buried Rosehill Cemetery, Owensboro, Kentucky. Pauline and Eston Eaty had one child: Eston Eaty, Jr.; born 16 March 1922; died 9 February 1977; buried Rosehill Cemetery, Owensboro, Kentucky. Eston Eaty, Jr. did not marry. He was retarded.

An undated clipping of the obituary for Pauline Eaty, which appeared in the Owensboro Messenger:

Mrs. Pauline Eaty, 82, of 2841 Tanglewood Drive died Friday at Owensboro– Daviess County Hospital. She was born in Daviess County, was a member of Bethabara Baptist Church and was past president of Daviess County Democratic Women’s Club and Daviess County Homemakers. Her husband, E. R. Eaty, died in 1973. Survivors include several nieces. Services are 10 a. m. Monday at James H. Davis Funeral Home. Burial in Rose Hill Cemetery. Visitation after noon today.


90. MILDRED5 ELIZABETH "BETTIE" WARE (Sarah4 Hannah Robinson, Boswell3, John2, Joseph1); She was born 23 January 1870; died 16 September 1943; married (first) CHARLES CAMP; married (second) about 1898, RICHARD F. CRADY; born 1865; died 17 June 1934; buried Bethabara Baptist Church Cemetery, Habit, Kentucky.171 Richard F. and Bettie Crady are listed in the 1900 federal census for District 6, Whitesville Enumeration District 35, Whitesville, Daviess County, married one year. Clara Crady, age 9, a niece, is listed with them. The 1910 census lists Richard Crady’s occupation as a carpenter.

Richard Crady was previously married; he lost his family to a tragic accident. According to my mother, Mabel (Horrell) Hunt, his wife and two young children were swept away and drowned while attempting to cross a flooded creek in a buggy. An undated clipping, of a memorial to this young family, undated and signed “a friend,” found with the papers of Birdie (Ware) Horrell, names the stream as Rolling Fork River. In the article, the children were named as Blanche and Wilford but the wife’s name was not stated.

91. ELIAS5 MARTIN WARE (Sarah4 Hannah Robinson, Boswell3, John2, Joseph1); He was born 20 March 1872; died 24 May 1899. Elias married 3 January 1895, EMMA BELLE MARTIN; born 3 May 1873; died 8 November 1938, Owensboro, Kentucky. Emma B. Was the daughter of Mercer M. Martin and Kate E. Funk. Emma B. Ware was a dressmaker. Elias and Emma B. Ware are buried Bethabara Baptist Church Cemetery, Habit, Kentucky. Emma B. Martin was married (first) to Otto Johnson.172

  192 i. Joseph6 Martin Ware; born 24 May 1896, Mason County, Kentucky; died 1 December 1968; married (first) Mildred Camp; born 24 September 1899; died 17 May 1952; Mildred Camp was a daughter of Oscar L. Camp. Joseph Martin Ware married (second) Nannie Holt.
  193 ii. Thurman Hickman "Dick" Ware; born 10 February 1899; died 16 March 1962, Owensboro, Kentucky; buried Bethabara Baptist Church Cemetery, Habit, Kentucky. Thurman married 5 November 1923, Louisville, Kentucky, Lillie Mae McKnight; born 8 November 1903, daughter of Isaiah McKnight and Ann Louise Beck. Thurman and Lillie Mae divorced. Thurman Ware was an auto mechanic. Thurman and Lillie Mae had four children.

92. SALLIE5 ELONIA "BIRDIE" WARE (Sarah4 Hannah Robinson, Boswell3, John2, Joseph1); Sallie Elonia was given the nickname of “Birdie” at age five by her aunt Sallie Ware (wife of Elias Ware, brother of her father, Iverson Ware) because “there were already too many Sallies in the family” and because she “flitted around like a bird.” Birdie was born 24 February 1874, and died 6 June 1954. Birdie married at the home of J. S. Taylor, 12 January 1892, Whitesville, Kentucky, JOHN ALBERT HORRELL;173 born 8 February, 1860, Redbud, Randolph County, Illinois; died of a cerebral hemorrhage on 1 August 1932, Habit, Daviess County, Kentucky. John Albert Horrell was a son of Cornelius Horrell and his first wife, Mary Adaline Ellen Tanner, who, according to family tradition, died of pneumonia when Albert was six weeks old.174 Mary Adaline Tanner was a daughter of T. C. (Tekel) Tanner of Louisville, Kentucky.

After Birdie and Albert were married they lived at Birks City, Daviess County, where Albert had been living prior to his marriage, and their first child, Wilbur, was born there. The young couple then moved near Philpot, Daviess County, where their daughter, Mabel was born. Later, Albert bought the farm of Charles Camp, the deceased husband of Birdie’s sister Bettie, located in the Andersonville community, presently known as Red Hill, Daviess County, Kentucky. Later they moved into the Habit community. Birdie and Albert Horrell are buried in Rosehill Cemetery, Owensboro, Kentucky.175

An obituary for Birdie Horrell appeared in the Owensboro Messenger for Tuesday, 8 June 1954:

Mrs. Birdie Horrell
Mrs. Birdie Horrell, 80, died at 8 P.M. Sunday at the Mary Kendall Home, following a lingering illness. Born in Daviess County Feb. 24, 1874, she had lived here all her life. She was a member of the third Baptist Church. Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Mabel Hunt of Pleasant Ridge, Ky.; and brother R. C. Ware, Clearwater, Fla.; five grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 10 A.M. today in the Owensboro Funeral Home, with the Rev. H. B. Kuhnle, pastor of Third Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery, Pallbearers are J. T. Mayfield, Robert Purcell, DeWitt Rowland, Edward Rummage, John Dunn, and Guy Williams. The body is at the funeral home.

An obituary for Albert Horrell appeared in the Owensboro Messenger for Tuesday, 2 August 1932:

A. J. Horrell. 72 years old, died at his home, near Habit at 6 O’clock Monday afternoon following an illness of six weeks. He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Birdie Horrell, one daughter, Mrs. Mabel Hunt, of Pleasant Ridge; four grandchildren, Robert, Doris Lee, and Raymond Hunt of Pleasant Ridge, and Mabel Ruth Horrell of Louisville. The funeral will be conducted at 3 O’clock Wednesday afternoon from the Bethabara Baptist Church.

  194 i. Wilbur6 Dewitt Horrell; born 1 November 1892; died 19 May 1932; buried Rosehill Cemetery, Owensboro, Kentucky; married Zella J. McCormick, daughter of John McCormick and Judith Davis.177 Wilbur and Zella Horrell had one child, Mabel Ruth Horrell. The 1930 federal census for Jefferson County, Kentucky, page 316, lists Wilbur D. Horrell (age 37; age at first marriage, 22; a real estate salesman) with his wife, Zella M. Horrell (age 33; age at first marriage, 18; a bookkeeper for a clothing store), and their daughter, Mabel R. Horrell (age 13) living at 2050 Eastview, Louisville.
  195 ii. Mabel Hawes Horrell; born 18 June 1895, Daviess County, Kentucky; died 7 December 1988, Omaha, Nebraska; married 4 August 1916, Globe, Arizona, Robert Maple Hunt; born 21 July 1893, Ohio County, Kentucky; died 12 April 1975, St. Petersburg, Florida. Maple Hunt was a son of Algernon Hunt and Mahala Davis. Mabel and Maple Hunt are buried in Rosehill Cemetery, Owensboro, Kentucky. Mabel (Horrell) and Maple Hunt had seven children, four living to adults.

93. ROBIN5 CRUSOE WARE (Sarah4 Hannah Robinson, Boswell3, John2, Joseph1). He was born 20 May 1876 and died in March, 1965, Pinellas County, Florida.178 Rob Ware married (first) DAISY GIVENS and (second) PEARL [—?—]. According to his sister Birdie (Ware) Horrell, Rob Ware named himself.179

  196 i. Lucille6 Ware.180 Lucille is probably the daughter who, according to Mabel (Horrell) Hunt, died as a child and is buried “on top of a mountain in Tennessee.”

94. ELBERT5 WARE (Sarah4 Hannah Robinson, Boswell3, John2, Joseph1); He was born 2 March 1883 and died 14 July 1935. Elbert choked to death on food according to his niece (my mother) Mabel H. Hunt. Elbert married 31 January 1901, EVA BRISTOW; born 1885; died 29 March 1965. Elbert and Eva Ware are buried in the Bethabara Baptist Cemetery, Habit, Kentucky. Eva Bristow was the daughter of Hiram and Minerva (Kirk) Bristow and a granddaughter of the Reverend Jasper Bristow. Elbert Ware was a blacksmith and had his own shop at Habit, Kentucky. Elbert’s draft registration card, dated 12 September 1918, describes him as being of medium height, of slender build, with blue eyes, and light hair.181

  200 i. Leroy6 Ware; born 1903; married 27 October 1927, Nancy Wilson. According to Mabel H. Hunt, Leroy was married twice and had one son with his first wife and two sons, Mickey and Mikey, with his second wife; the second family lived in Washington State. Leroy Ware (age 28) and Nancy W. Ware (age 23) are found in the 1930 federal census for Daviess County, Kentucky, page 124, Precinct 16 (part of Owensboro); Russell Wilson (age 23), brother-in-law, was living with them.
  201 ii. Guy B. Ware; born 12 August 1908; died 28 September 1908.
  202 iii. Sarah Marie Ware; born March, 1910. Sarah Marie married Everett Ruby, born circa 1906; the couple eventually separated according to statement of Mabel Hunt. Everett Ruby was a musician. Sarah Marie (Ware) and Everett Ruby had one known child, Everett Ruby, Jr. Everett Ruby, Sarah M. Ruby, and Everett Ruby, Jr. were listed with Everett Ruby’s (Sr.) parents, George and Connie Ruby, and Everett’s sister, Mary F. Ruby, In the 1930 federal census, page 64, for Vanover Precinct (Utica area) of Daviess County, Kentucky.
